Memorandum on the Parthenon Marbles (2000)

The Memorandum on the Parthenon Marbles, submitted by the Greek government to the British House of Commons in 2000, demonstrates a significant turn in the discourse of restitution politics compared to the first official return request presented in 1983, one that we might qualify as post-national. The emphasis shifted from issues of legality and national ownership to questions related to the management of cultural heritage and the proper appreciation of the monument in its entirety and in its original setting.
